Ok, I’ll admit it. I’m addicted to my Facebook. I check it on my phone, on my computer and on other people’s computers. I can’t get away from it. All of my friends have a page, even my mother and grandparents have pages. It’s a wonder I get any work done at all. Social media has revolutionized how we interact, make friends, share and express ourselves. It’s also changed the way employers get to know us before we even take a step inside the office. I know that college is a time for both business and fun, but students looking for jobs and internships should be careful about how they broadcast their downtime over Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites. Finding the perfect internship When I was accepted as a journalism major at Cal State Northridge, I learned that I would have to complete an internship in order to graduate. The little I knew about internships didn’t make me think it was going to be a fun experience. I figured I would probably be stuck getting coffee and answering phones at some newspaper or magazine. With 2010 slipping away from me, I’m starting to think about what 2011 will be like. This post is an attempt to figure out what I expect out of myself in 2011, and to set my professional goals/New Year’s resolutions for the 2011 year. First a recap… In 2010, I finished off my Sophomore year in college with above a 3.0 grade point average, was elected Black Student Union Vice-President on my campus, and I got an internship for the summer, and started in May.
